BALLOON BASICS — Float Time, Precautions, & Balloon Care

A WARNING ABOUT FLOATING BALLOONS ON CEILINGS*
Static and invisible fibers on ceilings can cause balloons to pop. Allow your balloons to remain tied to an anchor for at least five hours before releasing them to the ceiling. This allows the balloons to shrink enough so that the skin becomes thicker and tougher. After five hours, take 2-3 balloons and rake them across the ceiling. If these do not pop, it should be safe to release additional balloons. If they do pop, allow additional time and run the test again

FLOAT TIMES FOR MYLAR BALLOONS
In optimum environments, mylar (foil) balloons will remain full and taut for 3-5 days. They will continue to float for two weeks or longer. Air-conditioned air may cause these balloons to shrivel, but they will return to a normal state when exposed to warmer air.

HI-FLOAT® TREATMENT:  HI-FLOAT BALLOONS MUST BE TAKEN OUT OF THE PROVIDED BAG, TIED DOWN, AND ALLOWED TO DRY WITHIN 1 HOUR OF PURCHASE.
HI-FLOAT is a non toxic, water soluable solution, that coats the inside of a latex balloon. This coating seals the latex poors of the balloon which drastically slows the seepage of helium through the balloons skin, in turn extending the float time of the balloon from the standard 12-16 hours, to multiple days. The perfect solution for multi day events. Latex balloons, used indoors and out of direct sunlight, will usually float for at least 3 days if treated with Hi-Float®, a non-toxic sealant which coats the inner wall of the balloon. Float time may be reduced significantly in unusually warm, unusually cool, or very humid environments, and at elevations significantly above sea level.

Any bouquet or balloon which includes the letters HF in the product number are automatically treated with Hi-Float® without an additional charge. Bulk balloons can be purchased by phone with or without Hi-Float®.

Qualatex & Sempertex are the balloons  labels we use made from 100% natural latex — not plastic. Our latex balloons are biodegradable, and decompose as fast as an oak leaf in your backyard!

  • Latex balloons come from rubber trees. Latex is collected by cutting the tree’s bark, then catching the latex in a cup. Latex harvesting doesn’t hurt the tree!
  • Latex balloons are Earth-friendly! Rubber trees grow in rain forests. Latex harvesting discourages deforestation because latex-producing trees are left intact. A tree can produce latex for up to 40 years!
  • If the sound of a balloon popping startles you, you’re not alone. A bursting balloon actually creates a small sonic boom! Once a hole is made in an inflated balloon, the quick release of the balloon’s energy, or air, causes the hole to grow at almost the speed of sound in rubber. Since this speed is much higher than the speed of sound in air, the hole in the balloon actually breaks the sound barrier, creating a sonic boom.
  • Balloons were invented in 1824, the same year as the electromagnet.
  • Pioneer manufactures nearly one billion Qualatex latex balloons per year.
  • Helium-filled balloons float because helium is lighter than nitrogen and oxygen, the two components of air
